Warming Up A Problem On Your Website

This is a nice little reminder that technology can be used to help make you feel comfortable. Flickr servers went down for a very short time when I was trawling their sites for information to serve up to you guys. This was the “error message”.

Pretty cool huh?

It doesn’t scare you by screaming in big black letters SERVER ERROR, 404 file not found, which might make you think you’d lost all your images.

It says Flickr is having a massage. Doesn’t that put a nice comfortable image in your head instead? You think of a relaxed situation instead of a potential nightmare scenario.

So think on error messages because all communication should be carefully crafted to instill the right feeling in the visitor. Again it’s a copy writing thing but this also improves usability and ultimiately conversion.
