Web Analytics Terms and Definitions
There has been concern in the past over standard terms we use in the web analytics industry. What one company calls a visit, another company calls a session. One one analyst calls a page view another analyst calls an event. I have seen dozens of threads in discussion groups, heard lots of clients trying to define their own internal definitions and lots of posts on blogs etc;
I decided not to comment on all of this and wait for my colleagues at the Web Analytics Association to come up with their answer. A couple of weeks ago they did. My advice to my clients, colleagues and friends in the industry would be to follow these standards laid down by the Standards comittee of the WAA.
