European Web Analytics Association

Eric Peterson calls for a European sister organisation of the WAA citing what he calls “the inevitable conclusion that Europe is about to really take off in terms of the adoption and use of web analytics” as his underlying belief that the European market needs outweigh the current level of support offered by the International committee of the WAA.

I now go on record as agreeing with him.

As a serving Co-chair of the International Chapter of the WAA for the past two years I know first hand what difficulties we’ve had working isolated in many respects. An EU WAA would in my view alleviate many of the difficulties we as a chapter have in serving our members.

What’s important to remember is that the WAA was wholly formed to serve vendors, practitioners and consultants in a non profit way with an equal voice. This has been done successfully till now by a US based administration which has achieved a great deal in its short life so far. My utmost respect goes out to Jim Sterne and Bryan Eisenberg for initiating what has become a valuable and well run organisation.

In the early days of the WAA in Europe it wasn’t worth running a sister organisation as the membership wouldn’t have warranted it. Now however I agree with Eric that the timing might be right to form a sister company, an independently run, European non-profit organisation that can better cater for the needs of the EU membership.

I would propose a WAA vote of the current European membership.
